What
Timeline is an intentional list of memories and milestones. Each one is manually created and relived through photos and words; giving context to captured and uncaptured events in my life.
Why
This project means a lot to me.
I learned over time that part of memory is intention, and in the moment, I often lack that intention. So I photograph. I don't consider myself a photographer, though I enjoy it. I do it for the sake of remembering.
Until this project, I was content with Apple's photo map. I could see where I went - that was cool. It wasn't until I left a trip with experiences outside of photographs that I also didn't want to let go of.
So I started the timeline.
How
Timeline uses Cloudflares R2 storage to create and manage events. Image retrieval is driven through Immich, which I talk about briefly in my NAS project. Immich syncs my phone photos to my home server. I use their API to pull an event's images based on location and date metadata. That takes aways some of the monotony of managing images - everything lives in and is driven through a single source (this also encourages image culling after trips).
